Plant-Based Organic Fabrics
Nature’s Gift to Sustainable Fashion
Plant-based organic fabrics are derived from various natural parts of plants—leaves, stems (bast fibres), fruits, and seeds—each offering unique texture and structural properties. The length and strength of these fibres are closely linked to their botanical origin. While seed and fruit fibres tend to be a few centimetres long, stem and leaf fibres can extend well beyond a meter, offering greater tensile strength and versatility in fabric production. These fibres are primarily composed of sclerenchyma cells, known for their elongated shape and thick, lignified walls that provide natural durability and support to the plant. Found mainly in the vascular tissues (xylem and phloem) of both monocot and dicot plants, these organic fibres bring together sustainability and performance. At RIPL, we source and develop a wide variety of these eco-conscious fibres—from cotton and flax to hemp and jute—transforming them into fabrics that support ethical fashion and environmental well-being.
